Spazio Intro and Outro Animations

Motion Graphics – After Effects, Illustrator

Overview
Spazio is a monthly series that showcases Italy’s contributions and innovations for the future of space. It was created from a partnership between Space Foundation’s Space Commerce Institute, Embassy of Italy to the United States, and Italian Trade Agency of Houston (ITA).

I created the intro animation, a lower thirds animation, and the outro animation to be used in the monthly videos.

Please note that I did not design the Spazio Logo itself.

The Intro

The intro animation stars with an upward movement that is meant as a nod toward rocket launches. Then the Spazio ‘S’ logo is drawn on by the little ‘rocket’. It is then followed by the rest of the logo and a tagline.

Lower Thirds
(John Smithington is a fictitious person and is not the marketing coordinator at Space Foundation)

When designing the lower thirds motion graphic, I wanted the beginning to be eye catching because it is new information for the viewer. Then after the name and title are revealed, some stars pop up that are the same as the stars in the Spazio logo. The stars slightly rotate so that there’s still some visual interest without being too distracting. Then the stars disappear and the name and title are quickly wiped away.

The Outro

Finally, there’s the outro animation. The horizontally moving rockets serve as a transition from the video content into the end title. Then it fades out as the video ends.
